Il est possible d’aller directement sur le site de la revue Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health et de chercher l’article dans le numéro 61, pages 938-944, publié en 2007. Le plus simple est cependant d’utiliser la version de Google spécialisée dans la recherche des articles scientifiques, Google Scholar. En tapant le titre de l’article et les auteurs dans la zone de recherche, le moteur identifie le lien pertinent, et un lien actif précise qu’il existe 12 versions disponibles de l’article sur le Web.

En cliquant sur ce lien, il est souvent possible de trouver une version publique de l’article. C’est le cas ici : il est disponible sur le site Research GateResearch Gate est une sorte de Facebook de chercheurs, sur lequel il est possible de trouver des dizaines de milliers d’articles scientifiques en accès libre.

Si l’article n’est pas en accès libre, sur Research Gate ou ailleurs, il est toujours possible d’en demander une copie à l’auteur principal, dont les coordonnées se trouvent toujours sur les résumés accessibles en ligne. Les chercheurs sont généralement très heureux de faire connaître leurs travaux, et les enverront avec plaisir. Si aucun de ces stratégies ne fonctionne, et qu’on tient absolument à lire l’article, il est toujours possible de l’acheter en ligne avec sa carte bancaire, pout un prix généralement aux alentours de 20 €. C’est plutôt cher, et il est rare qu’on doive le faire.

Tous les textes scientifiques contiennent une bibliographie à partir de laquelle il est possible de rebondir pour prendre connaissance d’autres textes. Chacun peut également mener sa propre recherche bibliographique en utilisant des mots-clés associés au thème d’intérêt. Google Scholar est un bon point de départ, on peut ensuite utiliser des moteurs de recherche plus spécialisés sur des bases bibliographiques. On en trouvera la liste sur le site de toute bonne bibliothèque universitaire, par exemple celle de l’Université Paris Descartes.
